Wildlife Entry Points Every Homeowner Should Check
Wildlife can squeeze into openings far smaller than most homeowners expect. These are the spots we check on every inspection.
Roofline
- Ridge vents: gaps along the roof ridge are a common entry point
- Roof pipes: openings around plumbing vent pipes can allow wildlife in
- Soffits & eaves: gaps or damage here provide easy access, especially for raccoons and squirrels
- Chimney gaps: an uncapped or damaged chimney is an open invitation
- Attic vents: small openings in attic and gable vents are frequent access points
Exterior walls & doors
- Gaps in siding: cracks or holes can be widened and used to get inside
- Utility lines: openings around wires, pipes, and cables often go unsealed
- Garage door gaps: gaps around or under a garage door are easy access
- Door sweeps & thresholds: worn or missing sweeps leave a gap at the bottom of doors
Foundation & ground level
- Foundation gaps: openings in the foundation or where materials meet can let wildlife inside
- Crawl space vents: missing or damaged screens are a direct route in
