How Many Armadillos Are Usually Living on Your Property?
Armadillos are largely solitary animals, so the damage across a property is usually the work of one or two animals, not a colony.
Solitary, not social
Unlike raccoons, armadillos do not den in family groups as adults. A single armadillo typically maintains multiple burrows across a home range that can cover several acres, which is why damage can show up in different spots around a yard even though it is one animal.
Why it can look like more than one
An armadillo will reuse burrows under sheds, slabs, and along fence lines, and it forages across its whole territory in a single night. That range of activity is often mistaken for multiple animals.
What we check for
When we inspect a property, we look for active burrow entrances (fresh digging, no cobwebs or debris across the opening) to confirm which burrows are in current use before setting a trap.
