5 Signs You Have Rats in Your Attic
Rats are mostly active at night, so the sounds and residue they leave behind are usually the first sign homeowners notice.
The five signs
- Scratching, scurrying, or gnawing sounds in the attic or walls, especially after dark
- Chewed wiring, ductwork, or wood, sometimes with visible gnaw marks
- Small, dark, pellet-shaped droppings along attic joists or in corners
- A persistent musty or ammonia-like odor from urine buildup
- Greasy rub marks along beams or entry points where rats travel the same path repeatedly
Why it needs attention quickly
Rats reproduce fast, and chewed wiring is a real fire risk. The longer an active population stays in place, the more entry points and nesting areas tend to develop.
